The Writer's Room

A Creative’s Haven Turned Contemporary Retreat

Welcome to The Writer’s Room

For nearly a century, the building that is now The Renwick Hotel has been a home—and a muse—for creative minds. From its opening in 1928, legendary writers like Thomas Mann, John Steinbeck, and F. Scott Fitzgerald lived and worked here, crafting some of their most celebrated works within these walls. Later, visionary artists transformed the space into some of Manhattan’s first work/live lofts, infusing it with color, energy, and innovation.

Today, The Renwick carries that legacy forward. Our 173 studio-style rooms and suites are themselves works of art, each designed to inspire and welcome guests who come to New York seeking creativity, expression, and the stories only this city can offer. The Writer’s Room is your invitation to step inside that tradition and explore the art, history, and inspiration of The Renwick.
